Professor Dr Manish Kumar Diwakar is an accomplished Medical Microbiologist, an academician, Researcher, administrator, guide and motivator. Presently he is working as Professor in the department of Microbiology, Autonomous State Medical College Shahjahanpur (UP) since 2023. He has an extensive more than 18 years of professional career spanning diagnostics, teaching, innovation, mentorship of under graduate & postgraduate medical education and research, with earlier contributions across tertiary care institutions in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

Academic Leadership, Teaching & Mentorship:

During his professional journey, he played a pivotal role in teaching & mentorship of thousands of UG & PG Medical, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Allied healthcare & biomedical/Life Science students. As Research supervisor he has guided numerous post graduate and research students in microbiology. He has served as resource person in Medical Education Unit ensuring quality assurance and accreditation standards in Medical education. Apart from this he also trained about 500 Nursing & Paramedical Healthcare staff working in various government institutions of Uttar Pradesh & Madhya Pradesh ensuring quality assurance in laboratory services.

Diagnostics & Patient care:

His area of interest & core responsibilities includes Infectious diseases, Bacteriology, Molecular diagnostics, virology, Infection Prevention & Control, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Quality assurance. During his carrier, he established various specialized lab like BSL-3, BSL-2 & other labs for the public interest & welfare. Being Nodal Officer BSL-2 lab, he worked restless during COVID-19 Pandemic and reported more than 2.5 Lakh COVID-19 RTPCR lab results. He is actively engaged in awareness programs for prevention of various communicable diseases like Covid-19, HIV, Hepatitis, Dengue, etc among healthcare workers, students & community.  As Nodal officer ICTC/PPTCT and Complaint officer- HIV/AIDS act 2017 (UP State AIDS Control society), he delivered fabulous job in HIV treatment, prevention and equality. Under his leadership the government institute ASMC Shahjahanpur, department of microbiology is ISO 19001-2015 certified since last 4 years and dedicated to quality patient services.

Research Contributions & Publications:

  • He has delivered various scientific presentations at national platforms and actively participated in more than 50 national and international conferences/CME/workshops.
  • He has been organizing secretary/convener of 4 conferences/CME/workshops
  • Obtained Basic Course in Biomedical Research from ICMR New Delhi & National Institute of Epidemiology, Tamil Nadu in September 2019.
  • Revised basic course workshop in MET (28th -30th March 2022) at KGMU, UP
  • Achieved ISO 15189 (NABL) Internal auditor & quality certificate in 2025 and was organizing secretary & convener of the event.
  • Trained in “Quality Management system and implementation of NABH standard” in 2016.
  • He has Completed 32 certificate level courses & achieved certificate by various institutions/universities/agencies across India and abroad.
  • Published 12 Original Research articles in Indexed peer reviewed Journals.

Research & Project Experience:

Prof. Diwakar has led and supervised several impactful research projects focused on infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, biofilm formation and public health microbiology including:

  • “In vitro Antimicrobial activity of Azadirachta Indica (Neem) essential ethanol/acetone extracts” (2009)
  • “Biofilm formation and antibiotic resistance in Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus among nasal isolates of HIV infected patients in a tertiary care hospital” (2014)
  • Principal investigator of “Characterization and antibiotic resistance pattern of pathogens isolated from Urinary tract infection at a tertiary care hospital of Datia (MP)” (2019).
  • Principal investigator of “Characterization and antibiotic resistance pattern of pathogens isolated from pyogenic infection at a tertiary care hospital, Datia (MP)” (2019).
  • Principal investigator of “Effect of asymptomatic bacteriuria on pregnancy outcome in patient attending Antenatal clinic at a tertiary care hospital” (2024).
  • Research  supervisor of MD Microbiology thesis entitled” biofilm formation and antibiotic resistance in uropathogenic E. coli (2025)
  • Co-Research  supervisor of MD Microbiology thesis on Biomarkers in Hepatitis patients at a tertiary care center (2025)

Prof. Diwakar has demonstrated strong translational research skills through multiple registered designs at patent office, Government of India; including detection of HIV, Hepatitis & Malaria:

  • Micro fluidic rapid automatic device for HIV detection from whole blood (Design No. 423348; 16/07/2024)
  • Device for detection of Hepatitis through blood (Design No. 450278-001; 04/03/2025)
  • Device for detection and classification of Malaria parasite species (Design No. 472758-001; 26/12/2025)
