Prof. Ashok Chanana is a distinguished medical academician, forensic medicine expert, and hospital administrator with over 41 years of professional experience in medical education, forensic investigations, clinical forensic medicine, and healthcare administration. He obtained his MBBS from Dayanand Medical College, Ludhiana in 1981, followed by an MD in Forensic Medicine from Government Medical College, Amritsar/Guru Nanak Dev University in 1989. Further strengthening his academic credentials, he earned the prestigious Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in Forensic Medicine in 2006.

Prof. Chanana has served in several eminent institutions across Punjab, progressing from Medical Officer to Professor and Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine. His distinguished academic career includes appointments at Government Medical College, Amritsar, Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot, and Chintpurni Medical College, Pathankot. Since September 2025, he has been serving as the Medical Superintendent of Uppal Neuro Hospital, Multispecialty Centre and Research Institute, Amritsar, where he oversees hospital administration and clinical governance.

Teaching, Research & Academic Contributions

Throughout his career, Prof. Chanana has significantly contributed to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He has over four decades of teaching experience in Forensic Medicine and Toxicology and has conducted MBBS and MD examinations for 19 Indian universities and medical institutions. He has successfully completed the Revised Basic Course in Medical Education Technologies, the ICMR Basic Course in Biomedical Research, and formal training in Good Clinical Practice and Bioethics, reflecting his commitment to excellence in medical education and ethical research.

He has extensively handled clinical forensic cases and has frequently appeared before courts as an expert medical witness for both prosecution and defence.

His medico-legal opinions have been cited in 58 judgments of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, demonstrating the credibility and impact of his forensic expertise within the Indian judicial system. He has also trained judicial officers and police personnel in medico-legal procedures, thereby strengthening forensic practices within the justice delivery system.
