Dr. Anadi Gayen is an accomplished hydrogeologist and groundwater scientist with over 28 years of professional experience in groundwater exploration, hydrogeology, hydrochemistry, aquifer management, environmental sustainability, and water resource governance. He currently serves as Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, after serving as Scientist 'D' and Senior Faculty at the Rajiv Gandhi National Ground Water Training & Research Institute (RGNGWTRI). Throughout his career, he has played a pivotal role in groundwater assessment, aquifer mapping, water quality management, and national capacity-building programmes, while contributing extensively to postgraduate education and professional training in water resource management.

Dr. Gayen has made significant scientific contributions in the fields of groundwater quality assessment, hydrogeochemistry, aquifer characterization, climate-resilient groundwater management, managed aquifer recharge, arsenic and fluoride contamination, coastal hydrogeology, and sustainable water resource management. His research spans diverse hydrogeological settings across India, including the Western Ghats, Himalayan regions, Indo-Gangetic Plains, Sundarbans, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and hard-rock aquifers. He has also authored over 50 book chapters, technical reports, and official CGWB publications, in addition to writing the book Fluoride Contamination and Management Options in Consolidated Rock Aquifers. He has successfully led and completed important research projects on arsenic contamination, seawater intrusion, groundwater resource assessment, and aquifer management under the Central Ground Water Board.
