Dr. Smita Kumari is an accomplished academic and researcher specializing in Microbial Genomics, Environmental Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, and Bioremediation of Emerging Contaminants. She is currently serving as an Assistant Professor at GD Goenka University, Gurugram, since September 2022. Her academic career combines teaching, advanced laboratory research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and scientific project development.
She earned her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (CSIR-IITR), Lucknow, where she conducted advanced research in environmental biotechnology and microbial remediation. Her doctoral research laid a strong foundation for her continuing contributions to environmental microbiology, molecular biology, and bioremediation technologies.
She has substantial research experience from her tenure at the Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, where she worked on phyllosphere bacteria associated with rice blast lesions, and at CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow, where she served as a Junior Research Fellow and later as a Senior Research Fellow in the Environmental Biotechnology Division.
