Prof. Dnyanesh Belekar is a distinguished Indian surgeon, medical educator, researcher, and academic administrator with more than 26 years of undergraduate teaching experience and over 23 years of postgraduate teaching experience in General Surgery. He completed his M.B.B.S. with First Class distinction and underwent rigorous postgraduate surgical residency training at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and General Hospital, one of India’s premier tertiary care teaching hospitals renowned for trauma surgery.
During his residency, he acquired extensive expertise in trauma surgery, emergency surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, vascular Doppler studies, laparoscopic surgery, and endoscopic procedures. He successfully completed M.S., D.N.B., and F.C.P.S. qualifications in General Surgery in the first attempt, reflecting exceptional academic and clinical competence.
Prof. Belekar served as Assistant Professor and later Associate Professor at K. J. Somaiya Medical College and Research Centre from 2003 to 2015, where he played a pioneering role in academic reforms, interdisciplinary surgical teaching programs, and postgraduate surgical education. In 2015, he was appointed Professor & Head of the Department of Surgery at Terna Medical College. Since September 2024, he has been serving as Dean and Professor of General Surgery at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), NMMC.

Prof. Belekar is highly experienced in elective and emergency surgeries, trauma management, laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery, colorectal surgery, vascular surgery, and surgical oncology. He founded the “Integrated Cancer Management Program (ICMP)” and played a major role in launching and managing institutional medical journals including the Somaiya Medical Journal and Terna Medical Journal.
