Assoc.Prof.Biswajit Goswami is an accomplished academician, researcher, and extension specialist in the fields of Agricultural Extension, Fisheries Extension, Integrated Farming Systems, and Rural Livelihood Development. He is presently serving as Associate Professor (Agricultural Extension) in the Department of Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Statistics at Visva-Bharati University, Sriniketan, since December 2025.
Prior to this appointment, he served for more than two decades as Subject Matter Specialist in Fishery Science at Dakshin Dinajpur Krishi Vigyan Kendra under Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya from 2005 to 2025. He also contributed as Guest Lecturer in the Department of Fishery Extension under the Faculty of Fishery Sciences at West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences.
He qualified the ICAR National Eligibility Test (NET) in Agricultural Extension with specialization in Fish and Fishery Science in 2003, demonstrating strong academic excellence and professional competency.
Research Contributions & Innovations
Prof. Goswami has made significant contributions in the areas of scientific fish culture, integrated farming systems, biofloc technology, participatory rural appraisal, women empowerment in fisheries, and sustainable rural livelihoods. His research integrates extension methodologies with practical farming innovations for improving farmers’ income and livelihood security.
He has successfully handled numerous externally funded research and development projects sponsored by agencies such as ICAR, NABARD, ATMA, IFFCO, and ICAR-ATARI. Several of these projects focused on integrated farming, freshwater aquaculture, tribal livelihood enhancement, biofloc fish culture, low-cost hatchery development, and agro-ecological sustainability.
His innovative contributions are reflected in multiple patents, including:

- Low-cost multilayer floating fish feeding device
He has also developed a copyrighted methodology for assessing fish farmers’ attitudes toward scientific fish culture.

Prof. Goswami has an extensive publication record with more than 40 research papers published in reputed national and international journals. His publications cover fisheries extension, integrated farming systems, fish breeding technologies, rural sociology, women empowerment, and sustainable agricultural development.

Prof. Goswami has actively guided postgraduate and doctoral research scholars, contributing to human resource development in agricultural extension and fisheries sciences. He has completed supervision of M.Sc. dissertations and continues to guide Ph.D. research.
As an extension professional, he has played a pivotal role in transferring scientific technologies to farmers through Krishi Vigyan Kendra activities, field demonstrations, training programmes, participatory approaches, and livelihood-oriented interventions among rural and tribal communities of West Bengal.
