Prof. R. Nandhakumar is an accomplished academician, researcher, inventor, and author specializing in Supramolecular Chemistry, Biosensors, Fluorescent Chemosensors, Carbon-Based Materials, Chirality, Molecular Recognition, and Forensic Science. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Chemistry from Bharathiar University and completed his Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry in 2004 under the guidance of Dr. P. S. Mohan.

Following his doctoral studies, he pursued prestigious postdoctoral and research appointments in South Korea at Pohang University of Science and Technology and Ewha Womans University, working with internationally renowned scientists Prof. Kimoon Kim and Prof. Kwan Mook Kim. He later served as Research Professor at Ewha Womans University before returning to India.

Since 2011, Prof. Nandhakumar has been associated with Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, where he joined as Associate Professor and currently serves as Professor of Chemistry in the Division of Physical Sciences.

Research Contributions

Prof. Nandhakumar's research focuses on the design and synthesis of novel heterocyclic molecules and advanced functional materials for applications in chemical sensing, biosensing, environmental monitoring, chiral recognition, pharmacology, and forensic investigations. His pioneering work in supramolecular chemistry and fluorescence-based sensing technologies has contributed significantly to the advancement of molecular recognition and analytical sciences.

He has successfully completed externally funded projects from agencies including DST-SERB, IIT Tirupati Navavishkar I-Hub Foundation, IIT Indore DRISHTI CPS Foundation, HLL Lifecare Ltd., and Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences, securing research funding exceeding ₹1.6 crore.
