Dr. Vijay Kumar is a distinguished Indian environmental scientist, wildlife ecologist, and conservation expert with more than four decades of experience in ecological research, biodiversity conservation, environmental impact assessment, and sustainable ecosystem management. He currently serves as Director of the Gujarat Institute of Desert Ecology, Bhuj-Kachchh, Gujarat.
He completed his M.Sc. in Wildlife Biology from Bharathidasan University in 1984 with a dissertation on the habitat ecology of Ratufa indica in the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary. He later earned his Ph.D. from Saurashtra University in 1993 for his pioneering research on the Indian Mugger Crocodile (Crocodylus palustris) in Andhra Pradesh.
