Dr. Sudipta Kumar Ghorai is an accomplished academician, researcher, and administrator in the field of Zoology and Environmental Science with extensive experience in higher education, biodiversity conservation, coastal ecology, and molecular taxonomy. He qualified NET (2004 & 2005), SLET (2004), and GATE (2004), demonstrating strong academic merit at the national level.

He began his teaching career as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Zoology at Egra SSB College in 2006 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2019. In recognition of his academic leadership and administrative excellence, he joined Ramananda College as Principal in November 2025. Over nearly two decades, he has significantly contributed to teaching, curriculum development, institutional governance, and research promotion.

Research Contributions & Expertise

Dr. Ghorai’s research specialization lies in coastal biodiversity, benthic ecology, marine nemerteans, molecular taxonomy, DNA barcoding, environmental pollution, and conservation biology. His doctoral research at Vidyasagar University focused on the ecobiology of benthic nemerteans from the Subarnarekha estuary, Odisha. Subsequently, he completed a prestigious SERB-TARE postdoctoral research program under the mentorship of Prof. Punyasloke Bhadury at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata.

He has successfully identified novel species of nemerteans from the Bay of Bengal through morphotaxonomy and DNA barcoding approaches. His interdisciplinary research also extends to marine pollution, microplastics, herpetology, coastal ecosystem conservation, fishery biology, and environmental toxicology.

Dr. Ghorai has authored and co-authored a large number of research papers in reputed international journals including Science of the Total Environment, Chemosphere, Environmental Research Communications, Zoological Science, Marine Biology Research, Heliyon, and European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. His scholarly output reflects strong contributions toward biodiversity documentation, marine ecology, and sustainable environmental management.

He has also supervised doctoral research scholars in areas including shrimp farming ecology, nemertean taxonomy, and coastal environmental studies, contributing substantially to capacity building in biological sciences.
