Dr. Xavier Fernando is an internationally acclaimed researcher, educator, and engineering leader with over three decades of distinguished contributions to electrical and computer engineering. He currently serves as Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Director of the TMU Intelligent Communication and Computing Laboratory at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), Canada. He also served as the Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Computers, Science and Engineering (2025) at Florida Polytechnic University, USA.

His academic journey spans appointments as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University, complemented by industrial experience as a Research and Development Engineer at AT&T Telecom Products, Thailand, and international research fellowships at Swansea University (UK) and Aston University (UK).
