Dr. Sargunamani Devaraju is an accomplished scientist, researcher, academician, and textile technology professional with 30 years of combined experience in research, teaching, and industry. His academic and professional journey spans silk technology, textile processing, quality management, production planning, industrial engineering, and technical textiles.

He began his career in the silk and textile industry, gaining practical experience in production planning, quality management, and manufacturing. He subsequently served as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor at institutions including Jaya Engineering College, Chennai, and NIFT, Hyderabad. He also worked as a Quality & Training Officer in the World Class Manufacturing Division of MGLifestyle (Aditya Birla Group), where he received an Outstanding Grading Certificate for Six Sigma Black Belt.

Dr. Devaraju later joined the Central Silk Board (CSB) and has held scientific positions at CSTRI, Varanasi, RSTRS, Kanchipuram, and CSTRI, Bengaluru. He is currently associated with the Silk Technical Textiles Section of CSTRI, Bengaluru, where he contributes to research, technology development, and industrial implementation in the silk sector.

Dr. Devaraju's research focuses particularly on silk processing, textile machinery development, silk dyeing, waste-water treatment, quality improvement, process optimization, technical textiles, and sustainable silk technologies. His early research examined the effects of ozone treatment on mulberry and tassar silk, including their physical, chemical, and dyeing properties.

His subsequent work has expanded into industrial problem-solving and technology development, including:

Dr. Devaraju has been associated with several funded research and development projects supported by organizations including the Department of Handlooms & Textiles, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Central Silk Board–CSTRI. These projects have included funding ranging from approximately ₹1.5 lakh to ₹12 lakh and have addressed practical technological challenges faced by the silk industry.

Notable projects include advanced IR dryers, industrial washing-cum-hydroextractor systems, automatic Kilcha machines, warp-knotting machines, automatic reeling-machine silk quality studies, and combined winding-cum-doubling machinery.
