Research Contributions & Publications

Dr. L. Suresh Babu MSc, PhD (Medical Microbiology) has contributed significantly to microbiological research, with 19 publications in peer-reviewed journals. His research interests include molecular microbiology, infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and diagnostic methodologies.

Notably, his pioneering work in leptospiral research led to several important scientific outcomes:

  • Isolation of two new strains of Leptospira interrogans from human and environmental samples collected in and around Chennai.

  • Standardization of a dipstick dot ELISA technique for detecting Leptospira antigen from urine samples of human leptospirosis cases — a significant step toward rapid, field-level diagnostics.

  • These landmark contributions culminated in the award of his Ph.D. degree from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai.

Notable Research Presentations & Workshops:

  1. Recent Techniques in Molecular Microbiology – Wet workshop at L&T Microbiology Research Centre, Vision Research Foundation, Chennai (2010).

  2. Dipstick Dot ELISA for Leptospiral Antigen Detection in Urine – LEPTOCON 2009, VI Scientific Meeting of the International Leptospirosis Society.
