Dr. Chandrakala Baby is an accomplished legal academician, researcher, author, and administrator with 35 years of teaching and research experience, particularly at the postgraduate level. She has served as Professor in the Department of Law at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar College of Law, Andhra University (2022–2026) and Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati (2009–2022). She has also held positions as Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, and Principal of N.V.P. Law College, Visakhapatnam.

Dr. Baby has made significant contributions to legal scholarship, with research expertise spanning Labour Laws, Environmental Laws, Intellectual Property Rights, Administrative Law, and Women & Law. Her research portfolio includes 25 journal publications, 5 books, and 20 book chapters. She has presented 60 papers at international and 150 at national conferences, while participating in numerous academic and professional forums.
She has undertaken 8 international and 11 national research projects and has successfully supervised 9 Ph.D. scholars, with 2 theses submitted and 6 scholars currently pursuing research. Her UGC-funded research project on the impact of intellectual property rights on product patents in the Indian pharmaceutical industry, with special reference to Andhra Pradesh, reflects her interdisciplinary engagement with law, innovation, and public policy.

Her scholarship addresses contemporary legal and social issues including women's empowerment, gender justice, environmental protection, intellectual property and patents, farmers' rights, public health, climate security, industrial pollution, consumer protection, human rights, and information technology law. Her recent books include Intellectual Property Rights: Law, Practice, and Artificial Intelligence – Era Challenges (2025) and Green Justice (Understanding and Applying India’s Environmental Law) (2025).

Dr. Chandrakala Baby has received several notable honours, including the UGC-funded Post-Doctoral Fellowship (2006–2009), Lifetime Achievement Award in Law at the 6th Venus International Women’s Awards, 2021, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Award, 2022, and the Best Academician Award, 2022 from Friendship Forum, New Delhi.
