Dr. Shweta Tyagi is an accomplished Botany and Biosciences academician with extensive teaching, research, and scientific engagement spanning more than a decade. She is currently serving as Assistant Professor of Botany at Dhanauri PG College, Dhanauri, Haridwar, affiliated with Sri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University, from November 2024 onwards. Prior to this, she served as an Assistant Professor (Contractual) in the Department of Biosciences, DAV (PG) College, Muzaffarnagar, from September 2012 to November 2024.
Her academic and professional interests encompass plant sciences, phytochemistry, medicinal plants, antimicrobial research, plant physiology, plant tissue culture, sustainable agriculture, climate change, and environmental biology.
Research & Scientific Contributions
Dr. Tyagi has an impressive research record comprising 31 research publications, covering diverse areas of plant science and applied biosciences. Her research has investigated the phytochemical and antimicrobial properties of medicinal plants such as Ocimum, Hibiscus, Origanum, Piper betle, Barleria prionitis, Terminalia chebula, Butea monosperma, Tinospora cordifolia, and Tabernaemontana corymbosa.
Her earlier research focused significantly on salinity stress, seed germination, seedling growth, biochemical responses, phytohormones, and enzyme activities in important crops including chickpea, wheat, barley and pea. Her more recent work has expanded toward medicinal plant bioactivity, climate-change impacts, sustainable and organic farming, indigenous communities, and conservation of rare and endangered orchid species.
Books & Scholarly Publications
Dr. Tyagi has authored/co-authored four books and contributed to two book chapters. Her books address subjects including seed science and technology, natural farming, plant development, agriculture, and rural entrepreneurship. Her scholarly contributions demonstrate an interdisciplinary approach connecting plant biology with agriculture, sustainability, and societal development.
Conferences, Presentations & Scientific Engagement
She has presented research papers at 26 national and international conferences, seminars, workshops and scientific meetings. Her presentations have addressed subjects ranging from plant-based edible vaccines and phytochemistry to green fuel, antimicrobial activity, climate-related issues, Indian knowledge systems, disaster management, and sustainable development.
She has also delivered invited/guest lectures on water conservation and sustainable development and has actively participated in scientific and academic programmes throughout her career.
Research Projects & Training
Dr. Tyagi has undertaken research projects on antimicrobial activity of leguminous plants and production and optimization of protease enzymes using Aspergillus fumigatus. She has also gained practical exposure through workshops and hands-on programmes in plant tissue culture, molecular diagnostics, genomics, cancer biology, immunogenetics, forensic sciences, PCR techniques, research methodology, organic farming, and data analysis.
Notably, she has herself organized interdisciplinary hands-on training programmes in plant tissue culture, OMICS technologies, microbial/molecular/biochemical techniques, and contemporary biosciences, demonstrating her commitment to research capacity building.
Academic Leadership & Institutional Contributions
Beyond teaching and research, Dr. Tyagi has contributed to institutional development through several academic and administrative responsibilities. She has served on committees including NAAC learning and teaching/pedagogical approaches, the Proctorial Board, Cultural Committee, and Student Election Committee. She has also participated in organizing seminars, workshops and interdisciplinary academic programmes.
She has been a Member of the Advisory Board of Universities Journal of Phytochemistry and Ayurvedic Heights since June 2022 and has reviewed research manuscripts for academic journals.
