Research Expertise & Scientific Contributions

Dr. Roy’s research expertise encompasses reproductive biology, molecular endocrinology, reproductive physiology, transcriptomics, and gene-expression analysis. Her work has focused particularly on the reproductive biology of the freshwater spotted snakehead (Channa punctatus), investigating reproductive seasonality, gonadotropic regulation, hormonal receptors, and molecular signalling pathways.

She possesses technical expertise in RNA sequencing data analysis, primer designing, phylogenetic studies, DNA and RNA extraction, semi-quantitative and real-time PCR, gel electrophoresis, histological tissue processing, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, hormone treatments, and experimental surgery using rat models. These skills support her contributions to molecular biology, experimental Zoology, and reproductive research.

Research Publications & Scholarly Output

Dr. Roy has contributed to peer-reviewed scientific publications in established journals, including General and Comparative Endocrinology, PLOS ONE, Journal of Fish Biology, and Fish Physiology and Biochemistry. Her research has examined testicular transcriptome sequencing, seasonal reproductive changes, and the expression and regulation of reproductive hormone receptors in Channa punctatus.

Her notable publications include:

  • De novo sequencing and comparative analysis of testicular transcriptome from different reproductive phases in freshwater spotted snakehead Channa punctatus — published in PLOS ONE (2017).

  • In silico analysis, seasonal variation and gonadotropic regulation of jag1 and its receptor notch1 in testis of spotted snakehead Channa punctatus — published in General and Comparative Endocrinology (2018).

  • Research on the temporal expression and gonadotropic regulation of follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone receptors in Channa punctatus — published in Journal of Fish Biology (2018).

  • A collaborative mini-review on the influence of physical exercise on immune-system remodelling — published in World Journal of Biology Pharmacy and Health Sciences (2024).

She has also co-authored the book chapter “Anatomy and Histology of the Male Reproductive System” in Human Reproductive Biology and Health, published by Pearson India Education Services in 2023. These contributions demonstrate her engagement with scientific research, academic writing, and knowledge dissemination.

Teaching Excellence & Academic Development

Dr. Roy’s teaching experience spans undergraduate and postgraduate Zoology education, including practical instruction and specialized teaching in reproductive biology. Her academic approach combines theoretical knowledge with laboratory-based learning and exposure to contemporary research methodologies.

She completed the NEP 2020 Orientation and Sensitization Programme under the UGC Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme in January 2025. She also participated in a hands-on workshop on laboratory animal bio-methodology, ethics and welfare in September 2025 and completed a faculty skill-enhancement workshop on forensic science. In November 2025, she served as Co-Coordinator of a short-term course on Advanced Bioinstrumentation Techniques.

These activities reflect her commitment to continuous professional development, modern teaching practices, and the integration of emerging scientific techniques into academic training.
