Dr. KSR Murthy is a distinguished Marine Geophysicist, Environmental Scientist, and Social Environmentalist with over 52 years of research experience in ground, airborne, and marine geophysics. He obtained his M.Sc. (Tech.) in Geophysics from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam (1971) and earned his Ph.D. in Airborne and Ground Geophysical Research from CSIR–National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), Hyderabad (1981).

He served for 43 years (1973–2016) in two premier laboratories of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research—CSIR–National Geophysical Research Institute and CSIR–National Institute of Oceanography—and continued his scientific contributions through ocean research until 2023. Throughout his career, he led numerous national marine geophysical investigations and multidisciplinary oceanographic expeditions.
