Dr. Santosh Herur is an accomplished academician and researcher in the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering. He is currently serving as Professor and Head of the Department (HoD) in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Jain Institute of Technology, Davangere, Karnataka, which is affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi. Since 1st September 2023, he has been leading academic, research, and administrative activities in the department.
Dr. Herur has significant experience in engineering education, research supervision, and academic leadership, contributing actively to curriculum development, research guidance, and institutional development.

Dr. Santosh Herur has made notable contributions to research in areas such as Internet of Things (IoT), Embedded Systems, Artificial Intelligence applications, Smart Systems, and FPGA-based technologies. He has authored 20 research publications in reputed journals and international conferences. His work addresses real-world problems in domains such as industrial automation, safety monitoring systems, and smart infrastructure.

He has also been recognized as a Research Supervisor by VTU, Belagavi, and currently serves as a Research Advisory Committee (RAC) member for four research scholars, guiding them in advanced engineering research.

The funded project titled “Development of a Universal FPGA-Based Embedded Development Board for Multi-Sector Applications Utilizing RISC-V Architecture” aims to develop advanced embedded hardware platforms for multiple industry sectors.

Dr. Herur has received several recognitions for his academic and research excellence. He received Best Paper Awards at international conferences for his research on IoT-based coal mine safety monitoring systems. He has also served in various academic and professional roles such as Session Chair, Reviewer for international conferences (IEEE, Springer), External Judge for technical competitions, and Programme Advisory Committee member for accreditation processes.

He is actively involved with the global professional body Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and currently serves as the IEEE Student Branch Counselor at Jain Institute of Technology. Additionally, he holds roles such as Board of Examiner (BoE) member for postgraduate programs and contributes to academic governance in engineering institutions.

Dr. Herur continuously upgrades his professional expertise through academic training programs. He has earned Elite certification in Digital Image Processing from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur through the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL). He has also actively participated in 34 workshops, seminars, conferences, and Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) and has organized 10 academic events including workshops and conferences.
