He was also instrumental in developing an organically nurtured field to provide a platform for researchers to formulate and execute experiments on various aspects of organic farming.
His major scientific contributions include:
- Development of irrigation schedules for major field crops and cropping systems.
- Research on water use efficiency (WUE) in rice and irrigated dryland crops.
- Standardization of agronomic practices for sugarcane, sesame, wheat, groundnut, and aerobic rice systems.
- Introduction and promotion of System of Rice Intensification (SRI), System of Aerobic Rice Production (SARP), and Real-Time Nitrogen Management.
- Extensive on-farm water management research in the Hirakud Command Area.
- Research on groundwater table dynamics and crop productivity.
- Promotion of pond-based crop diversification models in irrigated ecosystems.
His work has played a significant role in addressing agro-hydrological challenges and enhancing sustainable agricultural productivity in eastern India.
