Ms. Sameena Khan is a fisheries and aquatic environmental researcher with research interests spanning aquatic pollution, pesticide toxicity, fish health, ecotoxicology, biomonitoring, and sustainable fisheries management. She has contributed to research associated with the Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-Kashmir, and has worked as a Project Assistant on the project “Evaluation and Bio-concentration of Pesticides in Dal and Anchar Lakes of Kashmir Himalayas,” funded by JKDST & IC, for two years and seven months.

Research Expertise

Her research focuses particularly on the effects of organophosphate pesticides on freshwater fishes, including behavioural toxicity, pesticide retention in fish tissues, aquatic contamination, parasitic infestations, and ecological risk assessment. Her work also encompasses aquatic ecosystem health, water quality, biomonitoring, chromatographic analysis, and pesticide decontamination.

Research Publications

Ms. Khan has contributed to 10 research publications covering topics such as pesticide-induced behavioural abnormalities in Cyprinus carpio, trophic status and Cladocera population dynamics, socio-economic conditions of fisher communities, helminth infestations, pesticide contamination of Dal Lake, and pesticide retention in fish muscle tissue. Her publications have appeared in journals including Heliyon, Toxicology Reports, National Academy Science Letters, International Journal of Current Microbiology and Applied Sciences, and Journal of Entomology and Zoology Studies.

Her publications include research appearing in journals with reported impact factors ranging from approximately 4.54 to 10, demonstrating continued engagement with peer-reviewed scientific research.

Books & Book Chapters

Ms. Khan has also contributed to seven book chapters/books, addressing subjects such as fish genotoxicity, pesticide removal from lakes, pesticide toxicity and decontamination, aquatic ecosystem risk assessment, fish waste utilization, aquatic habitat sustainability, and biomonitoring for environmental quality assessment. Her contributions involve publishers and academic platforms including Apple Academic Press and Taylor & Francis.

Awards & Achievements

A notable early achievement was securing First Position in a Science Model Competition held on the occasion of National Science Day in March 2016. The event was organized by the Faculty of Fisheries, Rangil Ganderbal, SKUAST-K, with support from the National Council for Science and Technology Communication, DST, Government of India, and the J&K State Science, Technology and Innovation Council.
